What is a Prescription Drug Plan (PDP)?

Stand-alone Medicare Prescription Drug Plans (PDPs) are meant to be used along with Original Medicare Parts A & B. (Medicare Parts A & B are your hospital and doctor coverage.)

  • There is no requirement to have PDP coverage. However, participation is restricted to those who have Medicare part A and/or Part B coverage or those who have a Medicare Part C plan that includes both Medicare Part A and Part B coverage.
  • PDPs are offered by private companies, although are reviewed and monitored by the federal government.
